Stunning, dark purple (nearly black) foliage in spring gives this variety some real eye appeal. Foliage transitions ages to a purple-green on this large, stately tree with a beautiful smooth gray bark. Retains its foliage intensity all summer in sunny locations. Smooth gray bark creates a beautiful accent in the winter landscape.
Grows best in rich, moist, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Tolerates drought once established, but is intolerant of wet, poorly drained soils.
