If you grew Midnight Wine®, it's time to switch to Midnight Wine Shine™. This is an improved selection with darker, extremely glossy foliage. Its parentage comes from the Canadian variety 'Tango', so it has excellent hardiness and is less prone to tip dieback. While its flowers are a bit better than Midnight Wine, the plant is grown for its attractive foliage and habit making it a great replacement for Berberis in places where it's banned.

Growing & Maintenance Tips for Weigela florida Midnight Wine Shine®
Adapts to any well-drained site.
Blooms on old wood - prune as needed after flowering, though this very compact, dwarf variety will rarely require it. Remove oldest stems every 3-5 years to encourage vigorous juvenile growth.
Shrub borders; mixed borders; edging; groundcover; containers.
Late to leaf out in spring. May require a bit of pruning to clean up winter damage - wait until new growth appears to do so.
