Usually grown in colder climate wetlands, Tamarack is a hardy tree that has a slender trunk with bright green, glossy needles that appear in soft tufts in early spring. The needle color will change to a golden-yellow in the fall. Did you know that the roots of this tree were often used to stitch birch-bark canoes since the wood would become very durable when wet?

Grows best in moist, well-drained acidic soil. Plant in full sun, but will tolerate some light shade. Trees do not perform well in hot and humid conditions.
