Strongly upright, deciduous shrub. Drooping, bell-shaped, white flowers with a reddish tinge are born in clusters in late spring. Green foliage turns vivid scarlet in autumn. With no serious pest problems, this is a carefree plant in the landscape.

Grows best in average, medium moisture, well-drained, acidic soils with full sun to part shade. Prefers moist, rich, peaty soils with a pH below 6. Blooms on last year’s growth, so prune immediately after flowering.
