This gold medal winner is truly an unrivaled Olympic champion. Introduced by our National Arboretum, 'Nikko' is even more compact than the species with even more show stopping bloom! Low and spreading, this fine textured deciduous shrub lends itself to such an explosion of blooms lasting up to 2 weeks that it completely obscures the small, light to medium green foliage... its like Deutzia gracillis on steroids! Culturally the same as the species, 'Nikko' thrives in rich, well-drained soil, plenty of sun, and with a good pruning after flowering. Plant it in groups in amongst perennials, along a foundation or in a small border area for a fiercely snowy early to mid May storm of bloom.
