Looking for a plant that can tolerate it hot and dry and still look great? 'Amethyst Dream' does that and more. This compact beauty starts to bloom in mid May with brilliant purple flowers, the deepest and darkest purple available in this genus. Resembling the annual Bachelor Button in size, this delightful bloom can reach an amazing 2 ½" wide. They are long lasting and excellent for cutting or drying and the plants are virtually carefree in the garden. Pair with 'Amethyst in Snow', the other stunning bi-colored Blooms Centaurea, for a picture perfect combo. 'Amethyst Dream' is drought resistant and great for a sunny perennial garden... even the soft, silvery green foliage will look great in the garden after the blooms cease in early summer!
Thrives in full sun in average, well-drained soil. Remove faded blooms to prevent self seeding. Plants may benefit from a hard cutting back in midsummer to rejuvenate the foliage. Divide every 2-3 years in fall.
