Originally known as Betula platyphylla ‘Whitespire’ has now been assigned to Betula populifolia ‘Whitespire Senior’ after determining that it is indeed a Gray Birch. ‘Whitespire Senior’ has exfoliating white bark with classic black marking and deep green leaves with an upright form that casts light shade. Its deep green leaves will transition to an attractive yellow color in the fall. Heat, deer, wind, and drought tolerant.
Grows well in sunny landscapes with average soils, although tolerates poor soil. If pruning needed prune in late winter.
