Meet Our Team » Mark Sellew
Wow, where has the time gone?? I have been at Prides for over 40 years…unbelievable! I can assure you that it has been a most interesting journey, full of many failures and triumphs. I still love it! The promise of spring every year is eternal and something that still motivates me.
What still excites me is our constant quest to find a better way, whether it involves how to get roots on Viburnum carlesii cuttings or how to load a truck more efficiently. Each of the thousands of jobs we do at Prides involves people and processes. I am still fascinated by the way our people work the process, overcome obstacles and successfully complete their jobs. The team here at Prides is what I am most proud of. When we work together nothing is impossible.
My wife Lisa works full time in the business and tries to make sure I don’t get into too much trouble. I have three sons, two of whom are working full time in the business. Ben, my middle son, is our salesperson for Massachusetts. My youngest son Jack has managed our Cromwell location for the past four years. My oldest son Paul had a brief but great run with Prides and is now working for SalesForce in Boston.
I still love to get into the woods on my mountain bike on the weekends and climb as many mountains as I can every summer.
Mark's Favorite PlantMy favorite plant is always evolving. I have really fallen for a new Viburnum carlessi we just started growing. Viburnum carlessi "Spice Island" is a real game changer. It is the first truly dwarf V. carlessi. It literally grows 75% slower, produces lots of the most fragrant April flowers just like its parent but provides so many additional attributes for the garden. Give it a try!
